This is namewise list, with guardian name, of candidates selected in the UPSC mains 2011 (written). This was uploaded on Scribd by somebody who identifies himself as ‘Vikram 1” on an online forum. Obviously he is a tech guy who wrote some script to get it from the UPSC website.  This has some error as he himself admits it as the script did not run perfectly.

See the image below for discussion and click on this link to see his pdf. This is fully unofficial and no claims are being made about it.  Click on this link for the orkut discussion.

Difference in cut off for general and obc, sc , st in UPSC CS exam

with one comment

Someone has initiated a discussoin on difference in cut off for general and obc, sc , st in the UPSC Civils and you can see below and the link:

– Dec 6

difference in cut off for general and obc, sc , st

Dec 6

Mains (2010)
General : 904
OBC : 885
SC : 867
ST : 865
Mains+ Interview (2010)
General : 1134
OBC : 1116
SC : 1073
ST : 1067

After Reserve List

General : 1116
OBC : 1111
SC : 1072
ST : 1067

…. … – Dec 6

Reserve list for 2010 isn’t out yet so the cut-off mentioned is purely speculative…anyway, considering the trend of reserve list 2009 genl cut-off isn’t expected to fall below 1120….in 2009,cut-off fell by 13 marks in the 2nd list(genl)

– Dec 6

Mains (2010)
General : 904
OBC : 885
SC : 867
ST : 865

When could reserve list for 2010 come out ? What is the criteria apart form the marks?

General : 1116
OBC : 1111
SC : 1072
ST : 1067

if there r 24 seats for sc category , then cut should b less by 3 to 4 marks. isnt it?

how many seats for general category  cadre wise for 2011, i.e ias , ips, ifs, irs——-

wait for notification till feb. It is not decided yet.

@Brotherhood

It seems that you have some precise information!
1. Do you have any information about the number of ST candidates in the reserve list?
2. If there are four vacancies for ST candidates,as announced with the final result, then won’t it bring the ST cut-off by at least 1 mark?
3. Why most of the times the vacancies in reserve list under the ST category are not filled.
Thank You.

A candidate to UPSC Prelims (PT) 2011 says:

clause 8 ii

more than one Admission Certificate from
the Commission, he/she should use only
one of these Admission Certificates for appearing
in the examination and return the
other(s) to the Commission’s Office"

Reason for fall in number of applications at UPSC prelims this year (2011)

without comments

In CSP 2011, less number of people have applied for the post compared to last year.

Total Roll no.- 4,97,826
Total Valid Roll no.- 4,89,327
Application of 8,499 candidates rejected.
Last Year candidature- 5,53,900.

Probable reasons:

1. last yr – many people, who were to exhaust their attempts…gave the exam (coz…of pattern change i.e. CSAT)
moreover…this yr..many people must have filled Duplicate e-form & also many will not appear coz of CSAT…..so, this yr no. of students giving exam will dec. further

Yes,I this this time those who have only one attempt left might not take the risk of giving the exam,as the pattern of CSAT is still not clear…They might give it next year when syllabus will be more clear…

Discussion on Geography optional and marks in UPSC CS mains 2010 marks

with 7 comments

In the recently declared mark sheet for selected candidates you can see this thread online to find the discussion on how Geography optional has performed. See excerpts and image below:

in my first attempt I was bit selective, but in this attempt I did the whole syllabus……
i had joined Shabbir sir’s test series….. and for human geo i relied totally on his notes….
i practiced in general about writing 40 words on any entry, that helped me in writing on entries in mains….

I GOT
PAPER I -119
PAPER II-155
total- 274

Ist paper- 149
2nd Paper-183
Total- 332

does word limit affects———-i wrote all answers but very much to the point —i was happy as i thought i hit the point———–but marks are 275———–i wrote 100 words for 20 markers and 350 for 60 marker——-did this resulted in so low score

word limit is not an issue as far as you are writing what the question has demanded…… i generally write 250 words for 20 markers, 700 words for 60 markers and 350 words for 30 markers……..
add to this there should be atleast 3 neat diagrams/ maps/ illustrations in every 20 marker, similarly 5-6 in 30 markers and 7-8 in 60 markers………
in himalayan answer of paper 2 i had drawn 12 diagrams in a 10 page answer………
